Using tap water to brush teeth may be unsafe due to its high metal content and lack of freshness, according to experts at the British Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI). In this respect reports Daily Mail edition.
Experts explained that in many older (or private) homes, water comes to the taps from storage tanks located on the roof or in the attic. These storage tanks are made of traditional metals that can corrode over time, causing trace amounts of metal fragments to be released into the water.
It is stated that the tanks must also meet a number of strict standards, such as having filters to prevent parasites from entering the water and being away from heat sources that can cause the water to deteriorate faster.
Using tap water to brush your teeth can increase your risk of swallowing metals such as copper and lead (in some European countries, some homes are supplied with lead pipes). Such poisoning negatively affects the general condition of the body and leads to the development of various diseases. It is also not recommended to use tap water for cooking because even boiling does not completely remove possible metal particles.
