The bill on the postponement of compulsory military service for employees of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Investigative Committee of Russia was submitted to the State Duma for consideration. This was reported by TASS.

Amendments are being made to the “Law on Military Duty and Military Service”. Employees of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation with higher education and special ranks will not be drafted into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Russia during their service.

They will also be exempt from compulsory military service for military training during their military service.

The bill states that such employees are subject to special military registration, the procedure and features of which will be determined by the Council of Ministers of the Russian Federation.

Currently, the law applies similar norms to employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Russian National Guard, the Federal Penitentiary Service, the State Fire Service, the Federal Bailiff Service and customs authorities.

If the bill is accepted, the new rules will come into force on September 1, 2024.
