Fatigue, thirst, and wounds that do not heal well may be symptoms of prediabetes. Ekaterina Kashukh, specialist gastroenterologist at the Gemotest laboratory, talked about this Pravda.Ru.

Diabetes Mellitus causes high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). About five million people are diagnosed with diabetes in Russia. About the same number of people already have high blood sugar (a condition called prediabetes), but the disease has not yet developed or been detected.

Most often, prediabetes is manifested by constant thirst and increased fatigue due to the fact that there is a lot of sugar in the blood, but it does not enter the cells.

“The fact is that glucose is the main energy source of cells. When they don’t get enough, they run out of fuel for normal operation and the energy-saving mode is turned on. Another symptom you should pay particular attention to is the constant feeling of hunger, which is also associated with lack of energy. When cells don’t get it, they send signals to the brain that they need more nutrition. A person constantly wants to eat but cannot satisfy his hunger,” Kashukh explained.

High blood sugar also negatively affects circulation and can therefore negatively affect the healing of ulcers, cuts and wounds, especially on the legs. The doctor noted that many people live with prediabetes for years and attribute the symptoms to other conditions. Therefore, it is important to undergo regular medical examinations and check your blood sugar levels.
