Today, doctors use four main methods to restore erectile function. These are medications, negative pressure therapy, intracavernous injections and implantation of penile prostheses, urologist-andrologist, associate professor at the Institute of Urology and Human Reproductive Health at Sechenov University of the Ministry of Health of Russia Dmitry Korolev told socialbites.ca.
“The first method is drugs in tablets: fifth-generation phosphodiesterase inhibitors. “It is an analogue of Viagra, it increases blood flow in the penis, leading to relaxation of smooth muscles, dilation of blood vessels and, accordingly, the achievement of an erection,” Korolev explained.
It is also possible to use negative pressure therapy – these are vacuum devices. They help improve blood flow in the penis and, in combination with tablet medications, can maintain an erection for a long time.
“If tablet medications and negative pressure therapy are ineffective, we recommend the use of intracavernosal injections, which the patient must perform independently, as the next step. But there is a minus – this method of treatment eliminates the spontaneity of sexual intercourse. “You need to go somewhere, give this injection and wait for it to work,” Korolev said.
If injections do not help to overcome the problem, doctors resort to penile prosthesis implantation. The biggest disadvantage of this method is the price, prostheses are quite expensive.
