Researchers reveal how Russians feel about professional games

Two-thirds of Russians view e-sports positively and support its development. Such data was published by analysts from the Rambler&Co media holding, who surveyed Internet users about what skills online games can develop and whether they can replace regular sports.

About 37% of eSports supporters enjoy online gaming, 21% think professional gaming is a good choice for young people, and 9% participate in eSports competitions.

Additionally, 33% of respondents believe that tournaments between players cannot be called sports. Almost half of the respondents (58%) describe e-sports as general entertainment, 29% say they are bored of watching such competitions, 9% do not like video games, and 4% doubt that e-sports can help develop useful skills.

The most popular e-sports discipline was shooting (42% of respondents), 28% chose strategy and 10% chose MOBA (online battle in the arena). Additionally, 10% preferred football simulators and 5% preferred fighting games.

During the survey, participants also explained what useful skills e-sports can develop. Just under half (42%) of respondents believe that playing games increases information processing speed; 23% believe that the game improves reaction training, 19% believe that the game improves logic, 11% imagination and 5% concentration and attention.

The survey was conducted between February 8 and February 15 on the resources of the media conglomerate Rambler&Co. A total of 20,305 Internet users participated in the survey.
