In mid-November, a 76-year-old woman was admitted to the regional hospital complaining of severe pain behind her ear, as well as paralysis and drooping on the left side of her face. “This is a very peculiar neoplasm that destroys bone tissue in its path, causing it to disappear. Such cholesteostomies can grow into the skull, which is very dangerous for the patient,” said Andrei Samko, head of the department of otolaryngology.

Doctors discovered that the tumor had already eroded the skull bone and was located on the dura mater. Damage to the facial nerve caused paralysis of the left side of the patient’s face.

During a three-hour operation, doctors freed the facial nerve from bone and tumor debris. The ear cavity, which was covered with the woman’s own fatty tissue from her abdominal area, was also cleaned.

The woman spent a total of 17 days in the hospital. She has already been discharged, visits doctors regularly and takes medication.
