Psychiatrist Arpit Aggarwal from the University of Missouri and American nutritionist Jennifer Bean said that eating milk, popcorn, fruits, vegetables and chocolate can help overcome “winter depression”. Suggestions published on the university’s website – University of Missouri (MU).

“Winter depression” is also known as SAD – seasonal affective disorder. This is a type of mood disorder whose symptoms appear and subside around relatively the same time of year. This usually occurs in autumn and winter due to decreased daylight hours and vitamin D deficiency.

People with a history of depression or bipolar disorder are at the highest risk of developing seasonal affective disorder, Aggarwal said.

Nutritionist Bean recommends consuming more foods rich in vitamin D to reduce the severity of symptoms. Numerous previous studies have shown that this substance helps relieve chronic fatigue and apathy in depressive disorder.

These products include popcorn, chocolate and milk. It is also worth increasing the proportion of fruits and vegetables in your diet. It is stated that they do not need to be fresh. Frozen fruits and vegetables contain similar amounts of vitamins and other nutrients as fresh ones.
