On February 8, the United States detected and tracked two Russian military aircraft in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). This was reported by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
It was noted that Russian planes did not leave international airspace, nor did they cross US or Canadian airspace.
NORAD noted that this was the second observation of Russian aircraft in the last three days. They also explained that Russian activities in this region occur regularly and are not considered a threat.
On February 7, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that two Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers carried out a planned flight over the neutral waters of the Bering and Chukchi Seas.
The day before, NORAD was monitoring the flights of a group of Russian military aircraft near Alaska.
As reported by the Russian defense ministry, two Tu-160 strategic missile carriers flew over the neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean and the Laptev Sea. The flight took more than 10 hours.
