Valery Falkov, head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, announced the launch of the updated Megagrants program, a project for international cooperation between Russian universities and scientific organizations. The update involves holding competitive elections and providing grants in two areas: providing funds for scientific projects and supporting young scientists. The press service of the ministry reported this to socialbites.ca.
The program was developed on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The update ensures competitive selection and grant provision in two areas. One of these is providing financial resources to scientific projects carried out by scientists who are leaders in various fields of science.
Falkov noted that participants producing projects will be provided with financing of up to 100 million rubles per year for up to five years. By decision of the Grant Council, it will be possible to provide an additional 50 million rubles per year to support research for a period of three years in the future.
The second direction provides support to promising young scientists. It was announced that the contestant’s age should not exceed 35 years of age when applying for participation. The maximum grant amount is 15 million rubles per year. This amount will be paid in two years. In this case, it is also stated that it is possible to extend the fund for another two years. Financing will also be provided in the same amount.
Before announcing the conditions for participation in the competition in the new format, members of the Russian Government Grant Council approved the requirements for nine scientific fields in which projects can be submitted. These include mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, biotechnology and life sciences, medical sciences, agricultural sciences, earth sciences, humanities and social sciences, and engineering.
