Noah He will be one of the people responsible for bringing pop rock to the stage at the next edition of Benidorm Fest. The artist from Bilbao will perform at the TVE music competition this Tuesday ‘I miss you -‘The song with which he will fight for one of the four places in the grand final in the first semi-final, which will be broadcast on TVE La 1 (22:40).
‘I Miss You’ is Noan’s declaration of love for the label. The Asturian singer with an energetic and heartbreaking chorus is written by Pepe Bernabé and band member Juan Ewam. Morpheus’ Dream. In fact, she sang an updated version of ‘You’ll Never Come Back’ alongside Raquel del Rosario, the vocalist of the band who also represented Spain at Eurovision 2013. YOTELE speaks to Noan about his participation in Benidorm Fest 2024, among many other topics.
How is the Benidorm Fest experience? Because you’ve all been very well received by the fans in a way and you don’t get as much hate as other imprints.
I think all our colleagues responded to all the issues very well. I don’t see any hate in particular. We appreciate all the super positive comments you see. I am extremely pleased with the welcome. ‘I miss you -‘ is not just a broadcast, it reached half a million views in a very short time. After all, isn’t the important thing that the song reaches, gets good comments and gives excitement?
You’ve been engrossed in rehearsals for weeks. You also came to Benidorm a few days ago. How do you experience the tests?
Very good. I mean, it’s true that the important rehearsal is here at last; Benidorm, with all the cameras, the lights, the final scene and a bit of a desire to see how it all turns out. It was imagined, thought out, computerized, rehearsed in other places, and we see how it all turned out.
Can you give even a small detail about your performance?
We can’t say much, but in my case it’s true that it has a lot to do with me, my pop rock music, my band, which makes the song a lot more exciting because it’s a very sensitive song. , written from the heart, very emotional and the lights in the background, which are very important, should be conveyed through the decoration, which we also had in mind, and everything will have a consistency, it will not just be direct.
When did you decide to present ‘Te echo de -‘ for Benidorm Fest 2024?
Look, ‘I miss you…’ I wrote this for my first album, which I plan to release in 2024. We didn’t really know which song to submit either. I had a lot of doubts about this. Actually, we were thinking of submitting another song at first and the production was quite different. I play drums too, and I actually had a completely different drum kit. And at the last minute, a few days before the closing date, I sat down at the drums and changed the production of the song a little bit, and it sounded a lot more heartbreaking, a lot more powerful, a lot more rock to us. In the chorus and at the last moment we sang ‘I miss you -‘. It was definitely not a song written for Benidorm Fest.
This is also very positive, because you are acting with your personality as an artist and composer… You are going with something that is your own.
I think we are all singers who slowly release songs, we create our own tastes and influences a little bit and this is reflected in the song, it is not a song written for that purpose, it is a song written from the heart.
How important is it that you go with something of your own? But not just the Benidorm Festival, because whoever wins also goes to Eurovision.
The most important thing for a festival like Benidorm or Eurovision is to go with something personal, something that represents you, something you have to defend. The thing is, ultimately you have something to say and the songs have to be yours, but you have to believe in it because otherwise no one will want it.
Friendship is also important. There are a lot of these at Benidorm Festival. I think it is also important to face such an adventure.
I’m very happy about this. We still have a few long days left in Benidorm and it will be a camping extravaganza (laughs). All the times we met were amazing, at the Prado del Rey, at the Grammys in Seville… You can feel the atmosphere. After all, we are all excited and it can be felt. We see that we are excited, we admire each other, and we are colleagues who care more about helping each other than competing. We definitely don’t see this as a competition. Even if we go to Eurovision, we see it as a music festival, not a competition. I think one of the best things that will happen to us in Benidorm will be the friendships we will make. We share the same musical enthusiasm, the same passion, the same excitement for Benidorm Fest. And nothing more, it’s all good vibes after all and I think it shows. I’m glad it’s actually visible from the outside.
Do you have a particular musical preference for any of your Benidorm Fest colleagues?
The truth is I still need to know a little bit about each of them. I have already said that we will share more things, more moments in Benidorm… I recently made a few versions on Instagram, I made a version of MARLENA and brought it to my home. He also made another one from Mantra, ‘Me vas a ver’. And, they’re definitely artists I’ve known before in Benidorm and logically you’ve known them before, you’ve got a bit more experience and camaraderie, but hey, I’m running into some super nice surprises like Almácor, Dellacruz… They are great. I knew Lérica before but it was a pleasure to meet them. Nebula, I think it’s great to see people of such different styles and ages getting to know each other and sharing the stage.
Have you made any promises if you win Benidorm Fest?
I told them that I would take the bus from Zarautz to Malmö. I told the others that they should come one day to surf and eat together, but no matter who wins. In other words, it doesn’t matter if I win or someone else wins.
You already said you can’t say anything about performance, but I suggest a game. I want you to compare your ‘I miss you’ number from Benidorm Fest to different things. If your performance were a color, what color would it be?
If it were a colour, it would be black.
What would happen if there was a time?
It would be a summer night like I said in the song.
What if it were a word?
I guess heartbreaking, something like that, emotional, heartbreaking.
If it were a number…
It could be anyone. Eight, which is my favorite.
What if it were an object?
It would be a black rose.
