Potassium-enriched salt should be included in recommendations for patients with hypertension. This was called by an international group of experts from the US, Australia, Japan, South Africa and India, who published a paper in the journal. Hypertension.

High sodium intake and low potassium intake are common, and both factors are associated with high blood pressure, increased risk of stroke, heart disease, and premature death. Using a salt substitute in which some of the sodium chloride is replaced with potassium chloride will help solve both problems.

The authors of the new study analyzed 32 guidelines adopted for the treatment of hypertension in different countries. They found that despite evidence from high-quality scientific publications, most documents lacked recommendations for the use of potassium salt.

Most guidelines focus on reducing dietary sodium intake. Many also recommended increasing dietary potassium intake, but only two guidelines (Chinese and European) noted the benefits of potassium-enriched salt. It consists of 75% sodium chloride and 25% potassium chloride and is safe for everyone except people with chronic kidney failure.

Previous scientists I learnedEven temporary relief of diabetes reduces the risk of heart disease by 40%.
