American dermatologist Lindsey Zubritsky said antiperspirant is more effective when applied before bed. In this respect reports Daily mail.
Antiperspirant is a cosmetic product that actively prevents the secretion of sweat and masks its smell with pleasant-smelling compounds. They usually contain aluminum chlorohydrate and aluminum-zirconium tetrachlorohydrex.
The dermatologist noted that most people use antiperspirant before leaving the house in the morning. However, this method of use is not very effective. Zubricki explained that product ingredients are better absorbed at night when body temperature naturally drops due to the need to prepare the body for sleep through increased melatonin production. Melatonin also lowers blood pressure, slows heart rate and sweating.
The expert also explained that there are two types of sweat glands in the body: eccrine and apocrine. Eccrine glands are found all over the body. Thanks to them, sweat drops are released on the skin surface. Apocrine glands are located in the armpits or on the surface of the scalp, in areas of the skin where hair follicles are located. Applying deodorant or antiperspirant at night provides the active ingredient needed to unblock the ducts of the apocrine sweat glands. This effectively prevents sweat and unpleasant odors.
