Scientists from the University of Alcalá in Spain estimate that the average life expectancy worldwide in 2030 will be 86.54 years for women and 83.13 years for men. Research results published In PLOS One.
In a new global study, scientists tracked trends in death rates from different causes in different countries and suggested that death rates worldwide will decrease significantly. Data provided by the United Nations Population Fund were used in the scientific study. It contained information about the life expectancy of people of different ages.
The team examined data from 1990 to 2020 and grouped 194 countries around the world into clusters based on their similarities in nine mortality-related indicators. These indicators reflected the average life expectancy of citizens at birth and at the age of 65, as well as the modal age at the end of life, or the total number of deaths that occurred among people of a certain age in the population. This data was the reason why countries were “combined” into five clusters, largely associated with five continents.
It was noted that the cluster, including Africa, showed a significant decrease in all-cause deaths in the population. Most likely, this is due to the decline in HIV cases and the end of various conflicts on the continent.
It was also revealed that the difference in life expectancy between men and women has narrowed. However, despite this trend, women will live longer than men on average. In 2030, average life expectancy is expected to be 86.54 and 83.13 years for women and men, respectively.
The authors of the study added that the shorter life expectancy of men is because most of them lose some of their Y chromosomes in their body cells with age. This process is associated with a higher risk of developing age-related diseases.
