According to the publication, German authorities are discussing the possibility of introducing plastic debit cards only for refugees, but some regions have already started issuing them. Approximately 200 cards have been distributed to immigrants so far, and this number will increase to 740 by the end of January.
“Most immigrants accept the changes and are happy to be given anything,” said Dagmar Peland, head of the refugee service. At the same time, according to him, in December 2023, 15 refugees soon left the country, stating that they needed cash, not cards.
It was noted that the number of people deported from the region where the cards were introduced increased significantly.
