Here are the most spectacular landscape photos of 2023

Australian Tony Hewitt is the big winner prestigious – though not the only – competitionInternational Landscape Photographer of the YearIn its tenth edition, corresponding to 2023, four photographs are presented, two of which were taken on the tidal flats of the King River at Wyndham; another in the Wheatbelt region; and the fourth at Shark Bay, all in its home state of Western Australia.

Canadian Andrew Mielzynski took second place with three photographs taken in Waterton Lakes National Park and Lake Abraham in the Rocky Mountains, all in Canada. Third was American Matt Meisenheimer, with snapshots two taken in Patagonia (Argentina), one in Alaska and the other in Hawaii (United States).

In the best landscape photos category, Canadian Blake Randall won first place with the photo taken at Lake Abraham. In second place in this category was Australian Peter Meyer, who took a photo of the fire on Fraser Island in his home country of Queensland. Italian Isabella Tabacchi came third with a photo taken in the mountainous regions of Iceland.

What they won in this year’s competition 4,035 applications from professional and amateur photographers from all over the world. The jury selected the ‘Top 101’ to award awards in different categories.

Winners in special categories were Jim Guerard (black-white) from the USA; Casey McCallister, USA (air); Thomas Vijayan (snow and ice) from Canada; Ciaran Willmore from Ireland (cruise); and John Seager from the United Kingdom (desert). The organization has published a book containing all the winners and the ‘Top 101’ photographers; three spanish: Luis Vilariño, Javier Enjuto García and Joaquín Marco (with two images).

“I hope my work can inspire others to get outside and develop a similar love of nature and a sense of responsibility in caring for our environment,” said Tony Hewitt, a professional photographer for 33 years; He started in the wedding industry and has been taking family photos and children’s portraits for the last 25 years. He has also been taking landscape photographs for 20 years.

“Fresh air, exploration and travel are often associated with the pursuit of landscape photography, and while it is a solitary activity, it also gives me the opportunity to collaborate on an adventure with friends and colleagues who share my passion.” It is a reflection of my reaction to what I see and experience. These are simple images that I hope will arouse curiosity and invite further investigation,” added the winner of the main category, best landscape photographer.

“My inspiration for photography stems from a desire to show the incredible, ever-ephemeral beauty of our natural world, especially the landscapes of my native Canada. For me, getting out in nature has always been an oasis of peace and tranquility,” he said, adding that his journey into landscape photography was fueled by his deep passion for the outdoors. and Blake Randall, who began with a deep appreciation for the creative expression it offered.

“I hope my work can inspire others to get outside and develop a similar love of nature and a sense of responsibility in caring for our environment,” added the winner of the best landscape photography category.
