Diets rich in plant protein are associated with reduced age-related chronic diseases in women. This has been shown by a published study. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN).
Researchers analyzed data from more than 48,000 nurses who reported their diets. His medical records were tracked from 1984 to 2016. People who added more protein to their diets from sources such as fruits, vegetables, bread, beans, peanut butter and pasta developed fewer chronic diseases as they aged. They were also more independent in daily life: They could fend for themselves, shop, and travel.
Those who consumed more animal protein from beef, chicken, milk, fish, seafood and cheese were 6% more likely to have health problems. Adequate intake of any protein has been associated with better physical function. But plant sources provided additional benefits: lower LDL cholesterol levels (“bad” cholesterol), blood pressure, and better insulin sensitivity.
Health data from nurses were used in the analysis, so results should be generalized to other groups with caution.
