The bill, which aims to tighten penalties for the abduction of minors during a military conflict or during mobilization, was supported by the Russian Supreme Court. The initiative was proposed by senators and received positive feedback from one of its authors, Irina Rukavishnikova, first deputy chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation and Statebuilding of the Federation Council, writes TASS.

According to the draft law, articles 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation will be added to provisions increasing liability for abduction of minors in conditions of mobilization, martial law, wartime or armed conflict or hostilities. If such a crime is committed, there will be a prison sentence of 8 to 20 years and a possibility of restriction of liberty for up to 4 years.

Rukavishnikova noted that the bill aims to increase the legal protection of minors against abduction during military conflicts and to prevent cases of forcible removal of children to Ukrainian territory under the pretext of evacuation from the war zone. The project was developed within the scope of the activities of the parliamentary commission to investigate criminal acts committed by the Ukrainian authorities against minors.

Vyacheslav Timchenko, Chairman of the Committee on Rules and Regulation of Parliamentary Activities of the Federation Council, noted that the Supreme Court has completed the provisions of the bill and proposed criminalizing the abduction of children known to be underage. He also emphasized that the bill will be presented at the next meeting of the parliamentary committee.
