“There are alcoholic paranoids. This is nonsense with a more specific plot, consisting of everyday content usually associated with acquaintances or close people. It can be defined as delusions of persecution. An alcoholic also hears the voices and sees visual images of those pursuing him,” Blagov explained.
Additionally, delusions of alcoholic jealousy are still quite common in men.
“According to some data, women suffer from this pathology extremely rarely. I have never encountered such patients in my practice. It is generally accepted that this is associated with male sexual dysfunction, although it is possible that things are more complicated,” said the narcologist.
According to the expert, various hallucinations are also common in these stages, which strengthen and develop delusional ideas of various contents.
“This usually occurs against the background of pronounced anxious emotional tension, fear for one’s life. The behavior of an alcoholic becomes consistent with his lived experiences and can pose a danger to the patient himself and his environment,” Blagov emphasized.
