Fasting days are effective when the intestines need time to clear food. Nutritionist Elena Solomatina told socialbites.ca about this. According to him, in addition to the fiber found in vegetables and fruits, whole grain cereals, cereals and liquids are also suitable for these days.

“Vegetables and fruits contain fibre, but you don’t need to indulge in sweet fruit or whole grain porridges and cereals. You also need more fluids – it can be water or herbal teas, unsweetened fruit drinks to facilitate the removal of residues again. Because even with various types of constipation, it is enough to increase the amount of fluid and that’s it, things will go faster. The urinary system can be strengthened with the help of infusions of dried apricots, prunes, you can also make vegetable soups, include broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini and pumpkin. Everything containing potassium has a diuretic effect, meaning it is all eliminated from the body faster. “It is better for food to be liquid, thick and hot because hot foods stimulate enzyme production and are easier to digest,” he said.

Solomatina noted that in order to protect the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, you should not eat spicy, salty and fatty foods on fasting days. The expert also called for the elimination of preservatives, dyes and flavor enhancers from the diet.

“Of course, you don’t need spicy dishes, salty dishes, sweet dishes, fatty dishes, because salt will retain liquid like sweets. Spicy foods can irritate your already irritated internal organs because they can also cause discomfort. Fatty foods – you also need to take care of your gallbladders, pancreas and liver. Preservatives, dyes and various enhancers should be removed as much as possible, since this also burdens the liver. The purpose of evacuation, so to speak, is to preserve the internal organs that work well during the holiday nights and days. “The next day, you can gradually add food,” he explained.

January 5 is International Fasting Day. It was celebrated for the first time in 2018. The creators of the holiday recommend avoiding eating potentially harmful foods on this day.
