More than half of Russians (56%) prepare Olivier for the New Year every year, according to the survey kp.ru. 8.2 thousand people attended.
Another 48% said that the New Year’s table is not complete without tangerines, because the citrus scent helps them dive into the holiday atmosphere. Slightly less, 47% of respondents always cook herring under a fur coat. The top five also included red caviar and jellied meat or jellied fish; 37% and 23% of respondents, respectively, put them on the table.
Chicken and crab salad received 13 percent of the votes, and French meat received 9 percent. 5 percent of Russians also prepare Mimosa salad, 2 percent prefer the “other” option. They shared that they could make vinaigrette, beetroot salad with hazelnuts and garlic, and a baked goose.
“Stuffed chicken legs are our special New Year’s dish,” said one survey participant.
Previous research by Rosselkhozbank showed39% of Russian residents named Olivier salad as the main dish of the New Year’s table. Another third of the vote (33%) went to the herring under the fur coat. Some respondents prefer hot snacks, so 14% cannot imagine a holiday feast without hot foods (baked meat or poultry).
