TVE’s news services are facing new changes in its correspondent network. Usoa Zubiria announced this Wednesday leaves the public broadcaster’s correspondent in Jerusalem (Israel) via a post published on the official Twitter account (now X).
In his message, the journalist said, “It is a difficult but very thoughtful decision. I am making this for personal and non-professional reasons. I would like to thank RTVE for their trust and all my colleagues who supported me this year.”
Zubiria’s announcement came in the midst of war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip; This is a conflict that TVE has covered with constant coverage in its News Programs since its inception, that is, on 7 October.
Zubiría came to RTVE’s Jerusalem correspondent last year. The journalist took over reporting on the Middle East from him. Javier GutierrezReturning to Madrid to continue working in the international field of the public channel’s Information Services.
From November 2007 until his appointment as a correspondent in Jerusalem, he carried out his professional career at the Regional Center of the Basque Country. According to the RTVE website, he has included numerous reports on the activities of the terrorist organization ETA in Euskadi and as special envoy in France.
In addition to working in Information Services, he has participated in several reports for Informe Semanal in Colombia, Guatemala and most recently Turkey.
During his career at TVE, Zubiria also received two awards: Intermedia-globe SILVER in the best political documentary category at the Hamburg World Media Festival in 2009, for the Informe Semanal report ‘ETA-FARC: Vínculos de Sangre’ and 2019. Ecovidrio Award in the TV category for a report on waste recycling broadcast in the program ‘Agrosfera’.
