The first appeals court of general jurisdiction in Saratov changed the jurisdiction of the torture case in the tuberculosis prison hospital of the regional Federal Penitentiary Service. This was reported by the press service of the court in Saratov. TASS.
The message clarified that “the criminal case against the defendant was transferred to the Moscow Regional Court for consideration.”
There are a total of 8 defendants in the case. Among them: the former head of the medical institution Pavel Gatsenko, the former head of the hospital’s security department Sergei Maltsev and several convicts. The detention periods were extended until June 5.
Saratov Regional Prosecutor Sergei Filipenko noted that the defendant may have connections with law enforcement agencies in the region and requested that the case be sent to the Moscow Regional Court. Another factor that supported the change of jurisdiction of the case was that most of the victims, witnesses and defense lawyers lived in the Moscow region.
