They noted that nuclear power accounts for more than 20% of generation capacity in some parts of the US. If Russian enriched uranium exports stop, electricity prices could exceed today’s inflation rates.
The authors note that most of the reactors operating in the United States and the European Union are built by Russia, which supplies them with components, and that many nuclear power plants will have to stop operating if the conflict between Moscow and the West continues.
The publication says there may be a shortage of capacity for consumer demand in such a situation in the regions.
To avoid this, Bowen and Dabbar say the US conversion plant must reopen and private companies must explore strategies to expand production and technology to replace Russian supply.
