Dependence on vasoconstrictor drugs for the treatment of colds is a “typical story” for patients using these drugs for a long time. In a conversation with the Public News Service about this issue reported Kristina Tadzhikulova, head of the Ear, Nose and Throat department of the Vidnovsky Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region. According to him, there are two ways to treat this addiction: conservative and surgical.
He noted that the non-surgical method involves regular ventilation of the room, humidifying the air and rinsing the nasal cavity with saline solutions.
“The fortitude of the person using the drops plays an important role here. If one is determined to reject them, the addiction can be largely overcome conservatively by prescribing auxiliary or distracting therapy,” the doctor emphasized.
First of all, in his opinion, it is important to get rid of bottles with vasoconstrictor drops scattered around the apartment, car and workplace so that “your hand does not stretch.”
Otolaryngologist Vladimir Zaitsev previously highlightedthat vasoconstrictors and antibacterial drugs are not effective in treating colds. He also recommended not blowing your nose too much to prevent inflammation of the auditory tube.
