Eating breakfast and dinner early may reduce your risk of heart disease. This has been shown by a study published in the journal. Nature Communication.

The authors used data from 103,389 participants in the NutriNet-Santé study (79% were female and the average age was 42 years). The results showed that having a late breakfast was associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, with the risk increasing by 6% for every hour late. For example, a person who eats breakfast at nine in the morning is 6% more likely to develop cardiovascular disease than a person who eats breakfast at eight in the morning.

When it came to dinner, the risk of stroke was 28% higher in those who ate dinner at 9pm or later, for example, than in those who finished their meal before 8pm. This link was especially evident in women.

To reduce the risk of possible bias, the authors took into account sociodemographic factors (age, gender, marital status), nutrition quality, lifestyle and sleep quality. However, their findings need to be confirmed by additional studies.
