Rinsing your mouth frequently, chewing your food thoroughly, and drinking cheese with wine can help prevent your teeth from darkening as a result of alcohol exposure. Uchenna Akosa, president of the Rutgers University Health Dentistry Association in the USA, spoke on this issue. Doctor’s recommendations published on the university’s website – Rutgers University (Rut Uni).

The doctor said that red wine should not be drunk after white wine. The fact is that white wine has high acidity and can “rust” the enamel, as a result of which it becomes more brittle. When exposed to coloring foods and beverages, including not only red wine but also chocolate, coffee, and fruits, the pigment is “absorbed” by the tooth enamel and changes the color of the teeth. The acidity of alcoholic beverages must be neutralized to prevent staining your teeth. Cheese is ideal for this purpose.

The dentist also recommended rinsing your mouth with water after drinking alcohol. However, it is not recommended to brush your teeth immediately. This can damage weakened enamel. Also, be careful when using pastes that contain charcoal or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) because these ingredients are very harsh.
