Parrots took fourth place among Russian pets

A study by insurance company Ingosstrakh showed that parrots ranked fourth in popularity among pets in Russia. Cats ranked first, dogs ranked second, and rats, hamsters and guinea pigs ranked third. socialbites.ca was informed about this by the company’s press service.

Ingosstrakh and the Financial University of the Government of the Russian Federation conducted a study in 37 largest cities in Russia. According to the results, 71.1% of Russians living in apartments have at least one pet. Additionally, 82.2% of residents of private houses have a pet.

The most popular pets are cats and dogs. 58.8% and 41.5% of the participants, respectively, have these characteristics. In third place are rats, mice, hamsters or guinea pigs (3.8%). The number of bird lovers such as parrots or ornamental birds in the country is slightly less – 3.2%. 1.9% of the respondents have aquariums with fish, and 0.9% have turtles and reptiles.

Study organizers also learned that the monthly cost of keeping a pet is low. Just under half (49%) of respondents spend between 500 and 800 rubles a month on them. About 25% of owners spend up to 500 rubles per month. One in ten people spend more than 800 rubles.

The survey also revealed which cities have the highest number of owners of the most popular pets (cats and dogs). A significant portion of dog lovers live in Yaroslavl (59%), Voronezh (55%), Yekaterinburg (54%) and Ryazan (53%), while cat lovers live in Kirov (81%), Moscow (78%), Nizhny . Novgorod (75%), Togliatti (75%), Izhevsk (74%), Yekaterinburg (73%) and Yaroslavl (72%).
