A 70-year-old local woman gave birth to twins in Uganda. BBC News reports this.

Safina Namukwai managed to get pregnant through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and gave birth via caesarean section at the Reproductive Health Center in Kampala on November 29. A girl and a boy were born to her. The hospital stated that the condition of the mother and the children was good, and noted that the birth of twins by a 70-year-old woman was not only a medical success, but also “a story about the strength and resilience of the human spirit.”

According to Namukwai, the pregnancy was not easy for her because her partner left her after finding out that the woman was expecting twins.

“Men don’t like it when a woman gives birth to more than one child. “My man has never come here since I was admitted to the clinic,” shared the woman in labor.

This was Namukwai’s second birth in the last three years. She gave birth to a daughter in 2020. According to the woman’s statement, her desire not to be alone in old age led her to get pregnant.

The publication states that there is no information about whether the woman used her own eggs, which she had previously frozen, or donor eggs to get pregnant.

Formerly a 54-year-old citizen of Tatarstan gave birth first-born.
