Hungarian authorities allowed the use of alternative fuel to Russian fuel at the Paks nuclear power plant, which was built with the help of Soviet experts. This was reported by TASS Referring to the decision of the national parliament.
Paks, currently the only nuclear power plant in Hungary, currently uses only nuclear fuel supplied by Rosatom companies, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Attila Steiner said in parliament. However, due to constant efforts by European authorities to propose sanctions against Rosatom, Hungary will need to find alternative suppliers in the future.
Additionally, Steiner said this would extend the lifespan of the Paks, which will end between 2032 and 2037. The extension of work will extend the service life of Paks NPP until the period 2052-2057.
Before that, management of Paks-2 NPP sureHungary will no longer need to purchase electricity after the new power units are put into operation.
Peter Szijjártó, formerly Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations statedHe said that his country would not support sanctions against Russian nuclear energy, no matter what package of measures the EU includes.
