Three Russian scientists, five companies and nine regions of the country became the winners of the first National Artificial Intelligence Leaders Award. The award ceremonies took place as part of the international conference on artificial intelligence and machine learning, the Artificial Intelligence Journey.

It was noted that Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Maksut Shadayev and General Director of ANO Digital Economy Sergey Plugotarenko attended the award ceremony.

“President Vladimir Putin at the last AIJ Forum ordered the creation of an award for the development of breakthrough solutions and successful implementation of AI technologies. This year, nearly 300 projects were submitted to the competition. I’m sure their numbers will increase every year. Domestic artificial intelligence solutions are already being used successfully in practice. “Approximately 70% of our companies have initiated business processes to ensure their safe use, and the regions are also creating favorable conditions for the application of artificial intelligence technologies,” he said.

It was noted that each of the three prizes in the “Scientists’ Award” category received prize money of 1 million rubles for their contributions to the scientific community in artificial intelligence research.

According to Shadayev, the 167 applications submitted in the “Company Award” category show that there are many bold, progressive companies in Russia that are not afraid to experiment and introduce new technologies. The AI Leaders Award was given to five companies that have successfully implemented AI systems into business processes with the greatest economic impact and replication opportunities in the industry.

The winners of the “Regions Award” category were organizations that successfully solved socially important problems using projects based on machine learning and data analysis. Among the regions, the award was awarded to Tatarstan, Lipetsk region, Sakhalin region, Bashkortostan, Ugra, Belgorod region, Moscow, Yakutia and Tyumen region.

The large number of applications and high competition received for participation in the award show that artificial intelligence is being implemented not only in alliance companies, but also in many other companies, including small domestic companies, and that artificial intelligence is being massively promoted. Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sberbank, noted that what the President of the Russian Federation talked about earlier has already begun.

Let us remind you that the award is organized by the Digital Economy ANO and Artificial Intelligence Alliance association with the support of the Russian government. It is designed to recognize groundbreaking research in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as outstanding examples of the application of artificial intelligence in commercial and government projects.
