British scientists from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have calculated how humanity can benefit from the fight against global warming for public health. The study was published in the scientific journal magazine Lancet.

Experts examined various methods to reduce the burden on the climate. These include switching from fossil fuels to environmentally friendly alternatives, healthier diets high in vegetables and fruits, and encouraging the use of cycling instead of public transport, walking and private cars.

In the analysis, scientists estimated the health benefits by calculating the number of life years gained per 100,000 people as a result of various actions to mitigate climate change by reducing carbon emissions.

The results showed that people would benefit most from switching energy production to renewable sources. For example, in this case, residents of India will receive an additional 150 years of life per 100 thousand population per year.

Changes in diet promise humanity about 300 years of life per 100 thousand people per year, and changes in agriculture related to reducing emissions promise residents of agricultural countries 250 years of life per 100 thousand people per year.

Green transportation improvements could add about 60 more years of life for every 100,000 people; The biggest benefits may come from actions that encourage walking and cycling and increasing the use of public transport.
