Scientists from Monash University (Australia) found that eating more than 60 grams of hazelnuts per day has a beneficial effect on male fertility by increasing sperm viability and motility. Research results published at Science Direct.
The scientific study is a meta-analysis. Scientists analyzed four large studies that focused on examining the effects of a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition on the body’s ability to reproduce. Australian researchers tried to find out whether eating hazelnuts affects male fertility.
The results showed that men who followed a 12-week diet that included eating 60-75 grams of nuts per day experienced significant improvements in sperm motility, viability and morphology. Morphological evaluation is an analysis that shows whether the external structure, size and part proportions of the sperm are normal.
The mechanisms underlying this beneficial effect remain to be investigated. Scientists also stated that new research is needed to examine the effect of nuts on women’s health.
