A team of American aerospace engineers from Arizona State University, California Institute of Technology and other scientific institutions found out which object fell on the Moon on March 4, 2022. According to findings, it was a Chinese launch vehicle with an unknown object on board. The study was published in the scientific journal magazine Planetary Science Journal (TPSJ).
It was initially assumed that the upper stage of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket had crashed into the surface of our planet’s natural satellite last spring. However, launch tracking disproved this theory and showed that the cause of the incident was a launch vehicle for China’s Chang’e 5-T1 mission, one of several space missions launched by China to collect lunar soil samples.
The science team also revealed details of the device’s flight. They found that the rocket moved without the characteristic yaw of other similar designs due to the mass distribution asymmetry caused by the heavy engine. Scientists concluded that their Chinese colleagues eliminated vibrations by attaching a kind of counterweight to the body.
Chinese representatives have not yet commented on the information that their rockets landed on the Moon.
