37,545 people participated in the experiment. For the first week, they ate as usual and then switched to intermittent fasting for seven days. They sent a daily report about their meal times, self-rated energy, mood and hunger to a special app on their smartphones. Data analysis confirmed that limiting food intake to a 10-hour period and fasting for the remaining 14 hours significantly improved well-being and reduced hunger.

Of participants who strictly adhered to intermittent fasting, 51% reported slight weight loss over a period of two to 16 weeks. This result is consistent with other studies showing that limiting mealtimes may prevent type 2 diabetes in people at high risk of the disease.
