Scientists from the National University of Singapore found that coffee can effectively prevent irritable bowel syndrome. Research results published At MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute).
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a gastrointestinal disease characterized by pain, abdominal discomfort, and intestinal dysfunction without organic pathology. Some studies have shown that a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, fish and olive oil can improve the well-being of people with this condition. Singapore scientists tried to find out whether drinking coffee could reduce IBS symptoms.
The new study builds on the results of eight previous studies on the effects of coffee on the gastrointestinal tract. In total, approximately 430 thousand people attended.
It turns out that people who drink coffee are less likely to develop IBS than non-drinkers. Scientists explained that there is no relationship between the frequency (and amount) of coffee drinking and the intensity of the therapeutic effect. This means that even one cup of this drink a day can relieve abdominal pain and normalize stool. More research is needed to understand what causes the positive effects.
