One in five students in Russia is ready to work illegally

A quarter of working students (28%) choose to register with the state, half register as self-employed, and only 19% of students are ready to work without official registration. Such data arise from the results of a survey conducted by the Analytical Center Consol.Pro, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.

Russian students state that it is not easy for them to study during the academic year. In every five cases (22%), respondents say they are close to quitting their job due to the impossibility of juggling work and attending university classes. The other 41% have to try very hard to please their employers. Only one in three respondents stated that company management helps and supports their work as well as their work.

Study format and student earnings vary greatly. The most popular among participants was a flexible schedule with the ability to work 2-4 hours (36%). At the same time, one in every four students earns from 20 to 40 thousand rubles per month, another 20% earns from 10 to 20 thousand. The main reasons why students choose a job are buying what they want (43%), financial independence (24%) and helping relatives (20%).

University teachers, on the other hand, oppose student employment. In the majority of cases (30%), teachers do not consider work as a valid reason for the student’s absence from the educational process. Only 16% of students note teachers’ support and understanding. Interestingly, the majority of working students still consider work to be more important than work. More than a third (40%) say they have managed to successfully combine the two processes, while another quarter (23%) admit that higher education is more important to them than making money.

More than a third (37%) of working Russian students believe that it is much easier for students at European universities to combine work and study. According to a fifth (23%) of students in Russia surveyed, the course load at foreign universities is lower, and the absolute majority of respondents (38%) are confident that European students often have a free schedule to attend classes. At the same time, 30% of students at Russian universities think that the level of foreign education is lower than domestic education. Only 17% of students surveyed admitted that they wanted to study abroad.
