Russians chose the best cities for shopping

The majority of survey participants (59%) say Moscow is the best city for shopping. In second place is St. Petersburg (36%). Third place was shared between Kazan and Kaliningrad, which received 14 percent of the votes each. 12% of respondents believe that the best shopping is in Vladivostok, and 11% in Yekaterinburg. Russians also noted Sochi (9%), Krasnodar (9%), Novosibirsk (7%) and Nizhny Novgorod (6%).

Key selection criteria include a large number of shopping malls and other sites, as thought by 69% of respondents. 39% focus on the presence of international brands. For 31%, it is important for local brands and designers to be represented in the city. The other 21% state that the prices of the items are low.

According to YuMoney analysts, over the past year the number of local brands replacing the remaining ones in Russia has increased, and the turnover of online clothing stores is not only decreasing, but also showing stable growth. UMoney analysts analyzed consumer demand ahead of November sales in Russia’s regions: Moscow and Yekaterinburg, where purchases of clothing, electronics and household appliances increased, were among the best cities for shopping.

In the last two months alone, from September 1 to November 5, the turnover of online clothing and shoe stores in Russia increased by 37% compared to the same period in 2022, while the number of purchases also increased by 37%. The average bill remained unchanged and amounted to 1,557 rubles.

Electronics and white goods stores also show positive dynamics both in seasonal sales and on normal days. In the two months from September 1 to November 5, the number of purchases in this category across Russia more than doubled compared to the same period in 2022; There were 33% more purchases and 44% more payers. The average bill increased by 63%, reaching 22,337 rubles.

In Yekaterinburg, a week before the start of sales, from November 1 to 5, the turnover of household appliances and electronics stores more than doubled compared to the same days last year. There were 16% more purchases and 24% more buyers. The average bill increased by 85%, reaching 34,890 rubles. During the off-season sales period – August 20 – September 19 – the turnover of Ekaterinburg electronics and household appliances stores increased sixfold compared to the previous month (July 20 – August 19), the number of people buying and paying increased fourfold. The average bill increased by 62%, reaching 23,624 rubles.

Muscovites also increased their spending on electronics and home appliances without waiting for the sales to start. Between November 1 and November 5, 2023, the turnover of white goods and electronics stores more than doubled compared to the same period in 2022. There were 64% more purchases and 60% more buyers. The average bill increased by 42%, reaching 27,164 rubles. From August 20 to September 19, when many were preparing for the school year, the turnover of online stores of electronics and household appliances in Moscow increased fivefold, the number of people making purchases and payments increased fourfold compared to the previous month. The average bill increased by 28%, reaching 24,124 rubles.
