Dmitry Sokolov, a former deputy of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma, accused of setting fire to the veranda of the Square restaurant in the city center, appealed the court’s decision to arrest him. This was reported by TASS With reference to Olga Kozlova, press secretary of the Yaroslavl regional court.
“The Kirovsky District Court received an appeal against the decision to arrest Sokolov,” he said.
The court had previously detained Sokolov until December 30.
According to the agency, the former deputy is accused of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional damage or damage to someone else’s property by arson), Part 3 of Art. 30, clause “a”, “e”, section 2, art. 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (attempted murder of two or more people). The defendant himself pleaded guilty to arson, but categorically denies attempted murder.
As Sokolov’s lawyer Alexander Tolyanin said, the reason for the arson was the quarrel between the deputy’s family and the management of the institution and the attacker’s state of strong alcoholic intoxication, which added fuel to the fire.
