Elena Alekseicheva, professor of the Institute of Humanities at Moscow State Pedagogical University, said that greater inclusion of artificial intelligence in the Unified State Examination process to track cheating will help reduce the average score at the time of admission and will also ensure equalization of graduates from different regions. she told socialbites.ca.
Today AI controls audiences in 84 regions of Russia. It is planned to expand the use of neural networks in schools in the future.
According to Alekseycheva, modern AI algorithms are trained to recognize suspicious student behavior, such as unusual movements or glances, and record them for further analysis by experts. This allows educational institutions to focus on real events, minimizing false alarms and significantly saving observers’ time.
“The neural network does not replace the person when checking schoolchildren’s answers, but complements him by acting as a primary filter. Artificial intelligence analyzes video materials and marks points for verification, allowing experts to focus on analyzing the most important sections,” emphasizes Alekseycheva.
According to him, the universal introduction of artificial intelligence in the Unified State Examination can reduce the amount of “educational tourism”. This is the practice of moving students to areas where exams are less tightly controlled. This unification of the level of control throughout Russia helps create equal conditions for all students and preserves fairness in assessment.
In addition, the expert recognizes a possible decrease in the average score in the country as a positive effect of the introduction of neural networks, since such a change would reflect a more honest picture of the level of education of students in the regions. This will improve the quality of education as schools and students will seek to actually learn the material rather than finding ways to bypass controls.
“A few years ago, when I was still working at another university, my colleagues in the admissions committee complained that applicants came with certificates of the Unified State Examination of 90-100 points in Russian, but they could not even fill out the application on the spot, because they practically did not speak Russian. There has always been stricter control over cheating in Moscow, so the average score is lower here, despite the large number of Olympic participants,” says Alekseicheva.
