Researchers at the University of Texas in the US are investigating whether arm strength training can strengthen the legs of people with knee arthritis. 60 volunteers will participate in the study. Physiotherapist Uzo Ehiogu explained that scientists are trying to test the theory of cross-training muscles in this way. The essence of this phenomenon is that, for example, training the muscles of the left arm has a positive effect on the right arm.

The main mechanism underlying this phenomenon is the neural adaptation occurring in the central nervous system. It is believed that the nerve connections formed during training of one limb help improve motor activity and increase muscle strength of the other, untrained limb.

American scientists suggest that arm training may lead to strengthening of lower extremity muscles through similar mechanisms. During the experiment, subjects will be asked to perform arm strength exercises regularly for 20 minutes.

Previous studies have shown that physical activities that involve using your arms, such as cycling, relieve knee pain more effectively than walking on a treadmill.
