Scientists from Urmia Medical University (Iran) found that curcumin and vitamin E helped improve sperm quality in diabetic rats. The results of the scientific study were announced magazine Toxicology Reports.

Diabetes causes testicular damage due to oxidative stress. That’s why scientists are looking for vitamins and antioxidants to treat this disorder. The current study examined the effects of vitamin E and curcumin.

48 adult male rats were used in the study. These were divided into several groups: Control group, vitamin E, curcumin, and those given vitamin E and curcumin together. At the end of the study, blood samples were taken from the rats that received the supplement for six weeks to determine the markers of the reproductive system, and the condition of the testicles and epididymis were examined.

The study showed that curcumin and vitamin E increased sperm count, motility and vitality. According to the authors, the findings are transferable to humans, but more research is needed to develop definitive recommendations.
