Spain’s National Cancer Research Center has established the world’s first biobank storing metastatic brain samples. In this respect reports NewAtlas news portal refers to the press service of the organization.
This bank accepts metastasis samples from brain cancer patients. To do this, light samples of the human brain are placed in special containers filled with liquid to maintain the correct humidity and temperature. The high level of sterility and biosecurity inside the containers ensures that contamination is prevented and the structure of brain cells is preserved.
These samples will then be examined to improve cancer control techniques. In addition, these samples will also be used in clinical studies to investigate the effects of various drugs to fight cancer. Currently, such experiments are carried out on mice, but it is extremely important to examine human cells as well.
