Nutritionist Jocelyn Laurent from the University of Maryland (USA) Charles Regional Medical Center said that it is better for people with diabetes to eat blueberries instead of fruit. In this respect reports Daily mail.

Berries and fruits contain vitamins, microelements and fiber necessary to maintain human health. However, most of them are rich in fructose, a natural sugar. The doctor explained that consuming large amounts of fructose in food can cause an increase in blood sugar levels, a condition called hyperglycemia.

In diabetes, insulin, which regulates blood sugar, is not produced in sufficient amounts. This means the body cannot safely use the excess glucose from eating fruit. Over time, glucose accumulates in the blood and can cause various disorders in the body – the consequences of hyperglycemia can be kidney malfunction, damage to the retina and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

The nutritionist noted that blueberries contain less fructose and calories. Even if you eat a large cup of fruit, your blood sugar level will remain stable. In addition, blueberries do not have the ability to cause excess weight. Blueberries are rich in vitamins C, K and manganese. Vitamin C has an anti-inflammatory effect, K supports normal kidney function, and manganese is necessary for oxygen metabolism in tissues.

Blueberries also contain polyphenols. These plant compounds may reduce the risk of diabetes in healthy people by normalizing blood sugar levels.

Previous scientists warned About the dangers of sugar substitutes.
