The best way to prevent school bullying and online bullying is to communicate with your child. First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Paternity, Motherhood and Childhood Issues Tatyana Butskaya told socialbites.ca that parents need to spend more time with their children to learn about their experiences.
“We need to communicate and spend time with the child. You come to a cafe on Sunday and see a family out for family dinner, everyone with their phones in their hands. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to see it then, you won’t be able to catch it in the first place. In addition to asking questions, there is also the option of watching a movie as a family. This is a family movie: we watched and discussed it. It’s rare for everyone to have time, but it’s also nice to read books together. Parenting experts say shared book reading, in which an adult reads to the child, usually works until age 14. It’s about getting to know your child. In general, you need to get to know your child periodically because this is a personality that we, as parents, need to know. Moreover, this personality has its own characteristics at every age. “If there is such work within the family, then prevention will also be effective,” the deputy said.
International Day Against School Violence, Bullying and Cyberbullying is celebrated every year on the first Thursday of November. The holiday was approved by UNESCO member states in 2019. It was later recognized that bullying and cyberbullying in schools were violations of children’s and adolescents’ rights.
