The Finnish government will allow American military personnel to enter the country without presenting documents. The local newspaper reports this Helsingin Sanomat.
The material suggests that in the near future Washington and Helsinki should announce the signing of a defense agreement, the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA). According to the agreement, US soldiers will be able to come and stay on Finnish territory without any restrictions.
“For example, they do not need a passport or visa. Accompanying civilian employees must have a passport and military ID,” the publication explains.
According to the publication, representatives of the USA and Finland are currently negotiating on the signing of a relevant agreement. The agreement is expected to be signed on October 31.
The authors of the article also emphasized that Finnish authorities do not intend to deploy American troops on the border.
YLE’s 30 October issue also reported About the imminent signing of a defense agreement between Washington and Helsinki. At the same time, Helsingin Sanomat newspaper noted that the parties do not plan to indicate in the document the exact location where US troops will be deployed in Finland.
As noted in the broadcast, this will be one of the main differences between this agreement and a similar agreement between Washington and Oslo. Three areas are expressly allocated to American military personnel in Norway.
