Ultrasound, CT and MRI of the abdominal cavity should be performed in three groups of patients: with non-viral and viral hepatitis, as well as with liver cirrhosis and non-alcoholic fatty disease, the National Research Center for Medical Oncology named after the head of the department of drug therapy. “Primarily patients who have been diagnosed with viral hepatitis C or B or who have been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis for any reason, such as alcoholism. The expert explained that a common consequence of viral hepatitis is liver cirrhosis and subsequent cancer.

Moreover, according to him, the group of patients with non-viral hepatitis is currently increasing significantly. They also need to do an abdominal examination.

“Non-alcoholic fatty disease is primarily a consequence of metabolic disorders – metabolic disorders most often associated with malnutrition, a sedentary lifestyle manifested by hypertension, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol. The possibility of developing cancer in this patient category also needs to be evaluated. Because in the general population, if we talk about normal, healthy people, the probability of getting liver cancer is quite low,” the oncologist concluded.
