Dermatologists from McGill University, as part of a research team, found that skin cancer rates are increasing despite the popularity of sunscreens. Most likely, this is due to their incorrect use. Research results published At MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute).

Researchers found that sunscreen use was paradoxically associated with increased risks of melanoma and other skin cancer.

Dermatologist Ivan Litvinov, lead author of the study, explained that people use sunscreen to “allow tanning.” This gives a false sense of security, even though being in direct sunlight is highly undesirable. Additionally, most people apply very little sunscreen and rarely reapply during the day.

It is stated that sunscreen is important to protect the skin, but dressing covered and staying in the shade are more effective methods. The researchers added that measures should be taken to increase people’s awareness of how sunscreens work.
