Researchers from Tufts University (USA) found that vitamins B5 and D, probiotics and green tea extract help treat acne. The results of scientists’ studies have been published magazine JAMA Dermatologist.
The authors conducted a meta-analysis of the results of 42 scientific articles involving more than 3 thousand people in total. These studies evaluated the role of nutraceuticals in acne treatment. These are vitamins, minerals, plant extracts, amino acids, etc. containing nutritional supplements.
The results showed that the listed nutraceuticals may be helpful in treating acne. Thus, vitamin D intake led to a significant reduction in inflammatory skin lesions on the face after 8 weeks of treatment, and vitamin B5 reduced the overall severity of facial lesions by 68% compared to placebo. Oral intake of green tea extract containing epigallocatechin gallate resulted in a reduction in inflammatory lesions in the nose, around the mouth, and in the chin.
However, scientists noted that the studies had small samples, so the results should be rechecked with a larger number of subjects.
