Russian troops never used heavy weapons such as tanks and artillery at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, as inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were able to confirm during inspections of the facility. In this respect RIA News said Mikhail Ulyanov, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation in international organizations in Vienna.
According to the diplomat, “irregularities” sometimes arise in the access of IAEA experts to some nuclear power plant facilities, since the Russian side takes into account security considerations when organizing any of the inspections.
However, Ulyanov assured that if appropriate conditions are created, inspectors will be able to calmly examine the situation in the region that concerns them.
“The Russian side did not place heavy weapons there from the beginning, and they are not there now. Inspectors have the opportunity to verify this,” Ulyanov thinks.
He said IAEA experts had already visited three roofs of nuclear reactors and were convinced that there were no heavy weapons, including artillery, MLRS or tanks, in these areas.
Previously at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs statedWithout Western support, Ukraine’s attacks on the Zaporozhya nuclear power plant would have been impossible.
