Scientists at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) have found that exercise improves erections almost as effectively as erectile dysfunction medications. The study was published on: Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Authors of a new review examined existing research on declining erectile function in older men. Some have shown that erectile dysfunction is often associated with cardiovascular health. Aerobic cardio training can improve this. To test whether aerobics helps erectile dysfunction, researchers found 11 high-quality studies comparing the erection effects of aerobics and drugs like Viagra.
Analysis of the data showed that 30 to 60 minutes of aerobic exercise three to five times a week was almost as effective as taking such erectile dysfunction medications. Exercise was associated with a five-point improvement in erections, a four to eight-point improvement in Viagra or Cialis, and a two-point improvement in testosterone. Interestingly, the more severe the patients’ condition, the more significant their recovery was.
Moderate aerobic exercise causes increased breathing and heart rate. The research team noted that, unlike medications, exercise rarely has negative side effects.
